Forty-Degree Nights Are When the Furnace Quits
Last week in Battle Creek went quiet on the radar and loud on the thermostat. After the Flood Watch weekend dumped 1.65 inches Saturday the 19th and another 0.85 on Sunday the 20th, Monday through Sunday stayed dry — zero measurable rain all seven days. Highs sat in the low 60s to low 70s. The nights did the damage: 49 Monday, 44 Tuesday with a 28-mph gust, 44 again Friday, then 40 Saturday and 40 Sunday, the coldest readings of the month so far. That is roughly 60 heating-degree days in one week. Heat is not optional anymore.
This is the week a furnace that "usually works" sits cold when you finally turn it on. Ten minutes on heat. Walk to the unit. You want a clean start, no water on the floor, no burning-dust panic that will not quit, no carbon-monoxide detector chirping. If it will not fire, smells like a wiring fire, or the filter is caked from sitting all summer, that is tonight's problem, not an October problem. Call A.W. Crooks. We are 24/7 residential plumbing and HVAC in Battle Creek, and we do not add a weekend tax during hours. (269) 962-5441 or book at tctcinc.com/contact. The Fall $99 furnace and $199 boiler tune-ups are still on tctcinc.com/specials — one system check. Repairs not included.
Same walk after a cold, dry week that followed a wet one: the water heater base and the sump. An 8-to-12-year-old tank with a wet ring on the floor does not need another 40-degree night. The $99 water heater check is still on specials: flush, T&P, look at the tank and the floor. Not a new heater. Parts and repairs not included. Lift the sump lid once — last weekend's water is still in the ground even when the sky is clear.
Tuesday's 28-mph gust and the early-week northeast wind trip outdoor disconnects and breakers that will not reset. That is The Michigan Electric Company — residential and light commercial electrical, panels, and generators — same number.
If you are building or running commercial or new-construction plumbing, that is The Plumbing Company, not Crooks. Not 24/7. Same call center reaches all three: (269) 962-5441 · tctc@mitctc.com · tctcinc.com.
